Sixers Balls: Did Ownership lie about Bynum?

20121031_inq_bynum31-b

Some people said it from the beginning, that Bynum would never wear a Sixers uniform. Most predicted that he would be back around the All-Star break (me included).  Well, obviously those people who said that he would never wear a Sixers uniform are patting themselves on the back right now.

Bynum has had a set-back and likely will be out for the year. Well, Andrew, it was nice knowing you. I will tell you how I feel and the best way of doing that is having the “Three Amigos” say it for me…

Seriously though, did ownership lie? Was this whole thing about just selling tickets? Some people think so. Howard Eskin reported months ago that the Sixers were not honest with the fans. The Sixers really did keep things quite for awhile about Bynum.  Bob Cooney of the Daily News called out the Sixers front office earlier in the year for being so secretive.

So did ownership lie? Obviously, we may never really know but in my opinion they did some what. I think they likely tried to keep things in-house for as long as they could with Bynum’s knees. They knew the reaction they would get if they came out and said that Bynum knees are shot, especially with the all the hype they built around Bynum. That might have felt the walls caving in.

I believe that they knew Bynum was hurt when they traded for him. I don’t think they knew he was this hurt. Maybe, he really did do some serious damage the night he decided to go “Glow Bowling”?  The Lakers flashed Bynum in front of the new, gullible Sixers ownership and they bit.

It’s hard to get mad at the ownership for the trade. They where trying to make there mark. They saw a player when healthy is a franchise type player. Something that the Sixers have been looking for since the early 2000’s AI. They were starving to become relevant again. The one plus from the trade is that it let Jrue become player he is.

Like I said before, I don’t blame them for making the trade. BUT you can question everything after the trade they have done. Man, that day at the Constitution center seems like 10 years ago.  Not all the confetti in the world helps them hide from this mess.
